Alvarado Hospital has been recognized, once again, by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the “100 Great Community Hospitals” for 2019. This is the second year in a row that the hospital has been so recognized. Alvarado, a 306-bed hospital outside of San Diego, falls under Becker’s definition of a community hospital as any healthcare facility with no more than 550 beds.

“We are humbled to receive this honor again,” says Robin Gomez, Alvarado CEO. “We take our role as a community hospital very seriously. We take pride in the care we provide to our neighbors, and in turn, their trust in us motivates us. This is why this particular award is meaningful to the physicians, nurses, and staff here.”

Becker’s referenced several healthcare ratings organizations such as IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals, iVantage Health Analytics, The Chartis Center for Rural Health’s Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals, National Rural Health Association, CareChex ratings, grades from The Leapfrog Group, awards from Healthgrades, and star ratings from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Alvarado Hospital currently holds a five-star rating from CMS for quality healthcare, has been a recipient of the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award for the past five consecutive years, and was awarded an A Grade for Hospital Patient Safety by The Leapfrog Group earlier this year.
