Alvarado Hospital physicians and staff are walking to raise money in the fight against heart disease and stroke in San Diego as part of the American Heart Association’s 2015 Heart Walk. The 4-mile Heart Walk takes place on Saturday, Sept. 19, in Balboa Park. This is the 10th year that Alvarado has support the event through walkers, donations and educational materials.
“Our goal this year is to raise $10,000 through hospital and employee donations,” said Peggy Wilkinson, chair of the hospital’s Wellness Committee, which is spearheading this year’s team.
Although the walk is free to participate, employees who make a tax-deductible donation not only do something good for the community, but also receive a complimentary T-shirt. Special fundraisers included gourmet cookie sales, raffle prizes, bake sales, and much more.
Employees, physicians and community members who would like to participate in this year’s Heart Walk can sign up or e-mail the Team Alvarado captain.
The walk starts at 7 a.m. and includes dozens of healthcare booths, giveaways, pet area, and fun events for the whole family. Well-behaved dogs are encouraged to attend and participating Alvarado dogs receive a complimentary bandana.
A group photo will be taken following the walk.
